The Atomic Cafe Part 2
I still find it amazing that the directors were able to gain access to all the material used in this film. How many pieces of history were used to create this film, I wonder? I know there's a source list at the end, but I'm pretty sure that there were probably multiple items from some sources. It makes you appreciate the work the directors put into the film even more. I can't even begin to imagine the countless hours of research it took to peruse all the historical evidence. Apparently the film took five years to produce. It really makes me wonder how much editing, how much planning, how much experimentation was done in putting the film together.

The Atomic Cafe
I'm really liking this film. It's a nice change from the stale documentaries (even though documentaries are different today than they were decades ago, a lot of them still share a common routine) that I'm used to watching. I find it interesting how they can manage to express a certain point of view without narration. Normally, one needs words to convince someone of something. While there are words, they have all been said in the past and are not part of a narration. I find it amazing how the directors could twist the images and words of our history into something that many of us may not have expected. I also appreciate the dark humor in this - it's what steers the documentary away from being a boring twist of past events and instead creates the documentary that we know of today.

Dr. Strangelove
Well, there isn't too much I have to say about Dr. Strangelove. I love the satire in it. When the pilot (I think it was the pilot) put on the cowboy hat I definitely smiled, especially when the music kicked in. The conversations in the war room made me smile, as well. However, because Dr. Strangelove is a satire on the Cold War, it basically pokes fun at actual events that went on. It makes it so that the movie only focuses on each character a little bit. I wouldn't say that it ruins the movie, but because they only spend a short amount of time on each set of characters (mainly switching between the plane and war room towards the end), the movie feels like it's over too quickly.
